Volunteer with Proper Groove!
Proper Groove is a start-up non-profit initiated because of community demand, and we depend on the time and energy of our diverse volunteer corp to carry out our mission of decreasing sexual assault and bias-based violence through victim/survivor advocacy, prosocial education and training, empowerment opportunities for marginalized identities, and fiscal sponsorship of aligned community initiatives.
Active volunteers are asked to donate their time and expertise toward our different Volunteer Levels. New volunteers are required to attend a Volunteer Orientation session and participate in a one-on-one interview.
Volunteer Levels
- Organizational Volunteer: regularly support Proper Groove for a prolonged period of time. Organizational Volunteers are involved in daily Proper Groove activities such as organizational operations, fundraising, bookkeeping, development, photography, website management, and graphic design. The time commitment of an Organizational Volunteer is usually 10-15 hours per week.
- Committee Volunteer: focus on specific projects such as curriculum development, program evaluation, events, special tasks, etc. A committee usually has a Proper Groove staff or Board member leading it. Committee Volunteers will attend Committee meetings and volunteer, as time permits, to take on specific pieces of work in between meetings. The time commitment for Committee Volunteers’ workload varies depending on the timeline for a given Committee, but the hours involved and timeline will clearly be shared in advance.
- Board Member/Leadership Volunteer: participate in the development of Proper Groove strategies and have a critical function in the mission of Proper Groove. One of the most important functions of the Proper Groove Board/Leadership group is to provide strategic feedback and advice as a collective group and ensure that big decisions are made in the best interests of Proper Groove. The Board/Leadership group will meet once a month for two hours, with an agenda distributed in advance, and members will not be expected to do any work between meetings.
